Toni Morrison

Among many other literary achievements, Toni Morrison is best known for being the first African American woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993. While Beloved is considered by many to be her most impressive work of literature to date (winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1988), she has also written many award-winning novels including The Bluest Eye, Sula, Song of Solomon, Jazz, Tar Baby, and Paradise. Like Beloved, most of Morrison’s work deals with the struggles of African Americans, especially women.
